Drainage Filligree   Traigh Mhor, Harris, Scotland

Probably my favourite beach in the UK, Traigh Mhor has coarse grained orange yellow sand, steep slopes impressively high dunes and small patches of gneiss bedrock at either end.  It is also always reassuringly immaculate and on most occasions unblemished at least near the sea.  The tidal pull here is severe and it carves huge troughs and channels into the sand and it appears that underground water drains through the dunes and re-emerges close to the shore line to form this beautiful dendritic filligree.  An art form in its own right.
