Ice Crown Rannoch    Rannoch Moor, Glencoe, Scotland

When winter weather sets in on Rannoch moor the water table rises and covers up many of the isolated rocks that protrude from the lochans.  As the weather freezes ice forms over the rocks as an ice sheet and then slowly the water level beneath drops leaving a floating platform of thin ice that is incapable of supporting it's own weight.  The sheet eventually collapses leaving a fractured mound of ice, an ice crown over the top and these I find very beautiful and highly photogenic.
