It hardly needs to be said that Glencoe offers probably the finest scenery in the whole of Scotland. Mid October see's the Deer grass turn from amber to orange and the riverside birch trees drizzled with gold leaf. Winter is very different, often an exquisite blend of ice, frost and snow. The high moors at around 1100 feet are regularly snow dusted, a perfect base for ice cream cone, snow capped peaks, The vast expanse of these highland moors backed by lofty peaks ensure that the rising and setting sun are uninterrupted by obstacles and thus frequently give rise to superb and intense colour in the skies with the mountains acting as projector screens. Spring is just as lovely, there is still likely to be snow on the mountain peaks but instead of the reddish brown hues of autumn and winter a blush of green starts to cover the mountains with a delicate palette of fresh green and yellow so indicative of new growth. In conjunction with fair weather, fine quality photographs are virtually guaranteed, sometimes accompanied by superb reflections in Glencoe's many lochans.
These four day courses will include visits to all of Glencoe's many highlights including stunning Glen Etive, Loch Tulla, the incomparably beautiful and desolate Rannoch moor, Kinlochleven with its myriad of reflections and high viewpoints and the amazing cascades and waterfalls of Glen Orchy. Glencoe is primarily a sunrise location so early starts are to be expected. Castle Stalker, Loch Etive, Loch Tulla and Kinlochleven are best for sunset. Meet up times at the hotel are around 13.30 hours on the commencement date. We usually have a quick lunch and introduction and then soon after that we leave for a late afternoon / sunset shoot. Wherever possible we will spend our time in the field, so with the exception of meals which are organised around the key times of sunrise and sunset you will be out from pre-dawn to post sunset and that will carry right through until around 1600 hours on the final day of the course. I make pick ups from Inverness accommodation and/or the train station around 10am on the commencement date and return folk to pre-booked overnight accommodation and / or the train station around 19.30 hours on the last day of the course.
Your accommodation will be at the comfortable and friendly 3* Loch Leven hotel, with a superb view towards the Paps of Glencoe at the far end of stunning Loch Leven. Each client will have a twin/double room to themselves and all the usual en-suite facilities, the meals at the hotel are really very good and excellent value for money and it is not unusual to see the restaurant at weekends entirely booked out by the local residents of Glencoe. Please budget approximately £20 - £25 per person per day for evening meals, packed lunches are available on request, but often an unnecessary extra.
