6K Womens Elite 7
The 6 kilometre womens cross country race around Holyrood Park next to Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh was one of the televised blue riband events. Two Kenyan girls had made a marriage of convenience with Turkey to enable them to run at elite level for that country and consequently selected to head the European team ahead of Fionulla McCormack (the Irish girl in 3rd position), whom I understand is at the very least not comfortable with the situation. Added vocal descension from notable commentators such as Steve Cram and Brendon Foster support this stance though I have to say that it does smack a bit of "kettle calling the pot black", as Great Britain have been so obviously one of the worst offenders.
