High Tide Pancake Rocks
Hopeman, Moray, Scotland
Most of the time the contrast between the backlit dark sandstone rocks sea and sky had been far to high to handle leaving the foreground a darkened silhouette and the sky close to burn out but after a while a great shelf of heavy cloud rolled in and tempered the inherent strong contrast making the image a viable proposition. This particular area has a wonderful shapely and heavily eroded and sculpted sandstone stack which leads out onto a surface which although virtually flat is actually comprised of stacked shelves like layers of sandstone coins that lead up to it.
