My previous experience with lion hadn't been anything to write home about, despite getting a reasoanble view of one it was basically laying on its back asleep in the sun partially concealed by grass and I quickly became as bored with it as it appeared to be with us. Not this time. This time the hairs on the back of my neck were standing to attention with the thrill of seeing a lioness making ready for an evening hunt and summoning her errant cubs. The sub-sonic base growl was truly menacing. This time we were thrilled into an awed silence.
