Marble Leaching
Staffin Bay, Skye, Scotland
Staffin has a wonderful beach, albeit it nearly disappears completely at high tide. The beach has marbled black and white sand, the black rocks at the base of the cliffs are slowly dissolved by the returning tide and the black grains of sand leach into the white and are dragged into some gorgeous patterns by flowing water. I took many but this one is more or less my favourite as it features the lap lines of a returning tide which create a cobweb of intricate scalloped contours on the beach.
